The Heroes Among Us
Welcome to the final unit of Stories. Throughout this term, we looked into the hero's journey and what that means exactly. We dove into Joseph Campbell's meaning of a hero's journey and the stages that makes a hero. The stages that a hero in the movie has to go through in order to make a hero, a hero. In class, we were asked to find a fictional character to follow their journey, and point out why. Then, we were asked to find someone in our life that we consider a hero, and interview them. We interviewed and asked them their story, and labeled their journey with an explanation. Here is my last AP for Stories.
We had to choose a fictional character in a movie, so I chose Stitch from the Disney movie Lilo and Stitch. I chose him because of the family issues that occurred and challenged him along the way. I wanted to look at my favorite movie character and how on a personal level, I can also relate to him. I then choose my mom as my non-fictional hero. I look up to my mom in many ways, so it was just natural that I go to her for this project. I hope you enjoy it!

Questions
- What are you most proud of/ biggest accomplishment?
My amazingly kind, compassionate, and socially conscious children are my greatest accomplishment(s)
- Who helped you get through this point in your life?
My mom and husband are the ones who have most helped me get to where I am today, as a mom and a human being.
- What was the lowest point while trying to reach this goal?
The death of my baby, and the death of my mom.
- What hardships, trials, obstacles did you face?
Lack of money, major illnesses of my children, alcohol addiction and mental illness of someone I'm close with, and my mom's major illness and death. I also struggled when some family members were not supportive of my choices.
- What lead you to try to reach this goal? (Call to Adventure)
I've always wanted a large number of children but ensuring they were good people, and positive contributors were extremely important to me. My mom's loving example of being a good parent was my motivator. I wanted to impact the world the way she did.
- What supernatural aid did you have? (Faith, Religion, Ghosts, etc)
None, except maybe some innate spirituality.
- Is there any point in this journey that you would like to repeat?
I'd love to go back to the births of each of my children, and the moment my mom met each of my children. Those moments were magical.

In conclusion, this action project allowed me to look deeper into the lives of all of the individuals included. For one, I was able to look deeper into how Lilo and Stitch's family was formed. I realized how the support of others can affect the way we grow up and form relationships and families. Helping them to start a new life and without even realizing it, they became heroes in their own ways.
