'¡Viva Mexico!'

Welcome to my first action project (AP) for Unit 1 of my senior Journalism class. In this class, we learned about news literacy and how to identify if a news source is credible. We watched the movie spotlight to learn about what a journalist does when investigating a source. We also talked with Julie Wernau, a reporter at the Wall Street Journal, and learned about how we could write unbiased news pieces. To wrap up this unit we were tasked with investigating and writing a news article about something that affects our neighborhood. I chose to write my article about Mexican Independence Day which takes place annually on September 16th. This event is important to Chicago because Chicago now has the second largest population of Mexican immigrants in the United States (after Los Angeles), with around 628,000 recorded between 2014-2018, according to the Migration Policy Institute. Designing a "good classroom"

Hello!  For my 2021 student orientation, we had to design a classroom within our school building. In our internal investigation, we learned about the history of classrooms in the US and explored what we thought made up a good classroom and learning environment. For our external investigation, we learned about different types of classrooms and visited a soundscape experience in Millennium Park to experience what made an outdoor place a productive learning space. Now to wrap up this orientation, we are tasked with designing and executing a plan for our assigned classroom that follows both COVID protocols and our group set standards of a “good classroom”. CH.
