Earth 2.0

In my STEAM course, we currently have a class called Fuel. During this unit, we have been learning about inequalities, the carbon cycle, the laws of conservation of energy, and balancing chemical equations. Throughout this class, I have learned a lot about different sources and types of fuel and energy. We went on an FE where we walked around schools nieghborhood and looked for different forms of pollution. Currently, the definition of pollution is any substance is in the wrong place or concentration in the environment. Throughout this unit, I have learned there is a lot more "invisible" pollution affecting our earth. For this Action Project, we had to talk about a plan for possibly reducing our carbon footprints. Hope you enjoy my essay! CH. "Essay." 2019

Sweet Dreams

In my humanities class, we had a unit called Who Am I? This unit was focusing on truth, memory, doubts, and dreams. This project specifically focuses on doubts and dreams. We visited the Art Institute of Chicago to learn about different surrealist artists from the early 18th and 19th centuries. We interpreted their reasoning behind their art piece. We also visited the American Indian Center in Albany Park to learn about the history behind dreamcatchers, the Ojibwe, and cultural appropriation. For this action project, my teacher asked us to create a dreamcatcher that symbolizes something personal to each of us. We had to connect it back to what we learned throughout this unit. I hope you enjoy it!     CH. "Sweet Dreams, Issuu." 2019 In conclusion, I learned a lot during this AP. I learned about the Ojibwe culture around dreamcatchers and the Great Spider. As well as the theories of many psychologists. This helped me explore what within my life has he...

Electric Cars are Lit

My current STEAM class this term is called "Fuel". In this class, we are focusing on renewable and nonrenewable energy. We have learned a lot about different types of energies sources like coal, oil, and natural gas just to name a few. We also focused on the periodic table, balancing chemical equations, and the equations for power and work. For our most recent FE, we went to a Tesla dealership in Chicago. We learned why the tesla salesmen believed Tesla was the best car, specifically electric car on the market. So my STEAM teacher decided that for our AP, we had to create an infomercial that shows why the viewer should choose the renewable energy over the non-renewable energy. For my two forms of power, I choose Electric Cars versus Gas Cars. Below I have included my infomercial, along with my slideshow. I hope you enjoy my project on renewable and non-renewable fuel! In conclusion, I believe you should choose an electric car as your next mode of transportation! It i...

Can Fuel be Crude?

My current STEAM class this term is called "Fuel". In this class, we are focusing on energy. We have learned a lot about different types of energies like coal, oil, and natural gas just to name a few. We revisited how to graph, find slope, y-intercept, and how to make predictions based on the given information. We also learned about elements atomic mass, weight, the symbol of an element in the periodic table, its group, and period. We had an FE guest come in and talk to us about fuel and energy. Our FE guest was from NicorGas company. She explained to us the different types of fuel, both renewable and non-renewable. She explained how we got gas and heat to our house. I believe that the FE guest helped me deepen my understanding of some of the fuels. To end the first unit of "Fuel"; my teacher has asked that every student produce a slideshow. The slideshow must include the oil productions of two different countries over a span of three decades. I chose to compare t...

Respect Makes the World Go Round

My current humanities class this term is called "Who Am I?". In this class, we are focusing on philosophy. We have learned a lot about Greek philosophers like Pythagoras, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. We learned the basic disciplines and theories of many Greek philosophers. We also researched the events that could influence many philosophers in their way of thinking. We also had an FE guest come in and talk to us about behaviorism. Our FE guest was a professional dog trainer. She explained to us how the use of behaviorism is demonstrated through like training a dog to sit or lay down. She then put us through a game. The game was similar to a positive reward training that is commonly used to train dogs. I found this game to be a very helpful example to explain the philosophy of behaviorism. To end the first unit of "Who Am I?"; my teacher has asked that every student produce a podcast. The podcast must include what I believe and what personal experience influence...
