GMOs, What are those?

Image
In the last unit of our freshman STEAM course called food, we focused on GMOs and GEs. We went on Field Experience to the Green City Market in Lincoln Park. We interviewed the vendors and the farmers from all over the Midwest and learned about their opinions on GMOs and organic crops. For this final action project, we were instructed to choose a side in the argument on GMOs. I hope you enjoy! CH. "GMOs." 2019

Biscuits on the Rise

In unit two of our Food class, we learned all about baking, pH scales, and. During our unit, we visited Big Delicious Planet where we got to take a look at their garden which is where they get some of their food and we also got to take a look at their kitchen where everything is prepped, stored and shipped off to wherever it needs to be. We also went to a homeless shelter and talked to the main baker that would cook for over 500 people a day. For our AP we had to take a biscuit recipe and substitute one of the ingredients for a completely different ingredient. We then had to observe what changes happened between our original(controlled) recipe and experimental recipe. I hope you enjoy and learn more about baking within this AP. CH. We learned about the importance of the nitrogen cycle, along with the reasons for any farmer to follow the four principles of Fukuoka. We visited an urban farm that is located near my school called Patchworks Farms. We learned about the advantages and difficulties of creating a farm in an urban environment. We also visited a catering company called Big Delicious Planet Catering, this company grows some of its produce on site. We learned about the techniques this company used in order to create their garden. We completed this project to help show all of the information we have learned throughout our first unit. In my class we had to plan a garden, I hope you enjoy what I have put together! CH. "Area of Garden." 2019 I would mos...
