The Queen of Tejano Music

Welcome to my last action project for Journalism. During this unit, we focused on documenting voices and how impactful recordings can be. For this action project, we were tasked with choosing an impactful voice of the 20th century and creating a short podcast about that individual. I chose Selena Quintanilla-Perez. Selena Quintanilla-Perez known as simply Selena, was an American singer, songwriter, actress, and fashion designer. She was named the "Queen of Tejano music" and was also known as the "Mexican Madonna". Selena was born as the last child of a Mexican-American father. She released her first LP record at the age of 12 with her Selena y Los Dinos band. At the 1987 Tejano Music Awards, she won the Female Vocalist of the Year award. She won this award nine times in a row. In 1989 Selena signed a record deal with EMI Latin. She released five Spanish language albums with EMI Latin, each having successful charts and sales. Selenas life was sadly cut short when she

In the second unit of my Economics class, we focused on matrices, learned the history of economics, and how modern economists and economics have developed. Our class visited The Plant Chicago on a field experience to learn more about circular economies. In our class we also read Doughnut Economics: Seven Ways to Think Like a 21st Century Economist by Kate Raworth. Students were paired off into groups and every group was tasked with reading, summarizing, and explaining a chapter to the class. After the presentations, we were then presented with our action project. For this project, we had to create an idea for the eighth chapter in Doughnut Economics. All though we did not have to write out a whole chapter ourselves. We were tasked with writing out the introduction/summary to the chapter that would go into the book as well as creating an image related to our idea. I hope you enjoy my project! --------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 8 Use, Reuse, Recycle, Repea

In my coding workshop, we just finished going over our third unit. In this unit, we focused on if, elif, else statements. We talked about booleans and why we should leave comments throughout our codes with the # symbol. For our action projects, we had to create a chatbot that consisted of if, elif, else statements, and random.choice. Please be patient because it still is a work in progress. Thank you and enjoy! CH. "Chatbot." Trinket.io, 2021. This project really tested my creativity and what I knew about coding. I had a difficult time in the beginning stages of my code, I experienced writer's block and could not think of any way to start. After looking at other examples of chatbots I finally settled on a chatbot that tells jokes. The most difficult part was debugging my code and then creating a loop. I am very proud of what I have made. Thank you for taking the time to view my project!

Make Your Mark

Welcome to my AP for Journalism. In this unit, we focused on photojournalism. We learned about the functions of a camera and core parts of photography like aperture and shutter speed. We spoke with Caleb Hammernick, a professional photographer and photography teacher. We also talked about the book 'Our America: Life and Death on the South Side of Chicago'. We focused on the key parts of Lloyd and LeAlan's interviews for their book. While reading this chapter we searched for our definition of the meaning of life. Now for our AP, we are tasked with interviewing someone and documenting their meaning of life. I hope you enjoy this post and that my project helps you in your own search for your true meaning of life.  --------------------------------------------------------- Make Your Mark What is the meaning of life? This is the question that is guiding my search. This search led me to interview Tricia. Tricia describes herself as a mom of seven, with six living children, as a w
