Why should I learn about Art?

10 reasons why the arts in schools is so important:

  1. Working in the arts helps learners to develop creative problem-solving skills.
  2. Teaching through the arts can present difficult concepts visually, making them more easy to understand.
  3. Art instruction helps children with the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, and inventiveness.
  4. Visual arts teach learners about color, layout, perspective, and balance all techniques that are necessary for presentations (visual, digital) of academic work.
  5. Integrating art with other disciplines reaches students who might not otherwise be engaged in classwork.
  6. Arts experiences boost critical thinking, teaching students to take the time to be more careful and thorough in how they observe the world.
  7. The arts provide challenges for learners at all levels.
  8. Art education connects students with their own culture as well as with the wider world.
  9. A report by Americans for the Arts states that young people who participate regularly in the arts (three hours a day on three days each week through one full year) are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, to participate in a math and science fair, or to win an award for writing an essay or poem than children who do not participate.
  10. A study of Missouri public schools in 2010 found that greater arts education led to fewer disciplinary infractions and higher attendance, graduation rates, and test scores.

Welcome to my first AP for Endurance. During this class, we learned about the holocaust and visited the Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie. We also read the book called ¨Night¨. We also watched ¨Schindlers List¨. While reading this book and watching the movie, we learned about the different ways people endured during the holocaust. We also learned about Laura Dekker. She was the youngest person to sail around the world by herself. For our AP, we had to come up with an idea of something we could endure or complete in 12 hours. I choose to challenge my social anxiety and go to the gym for those 12 hours. Are You There Margaret?

Blume. "Book Cover." 1970. This is an action project for my core class Forbidden Books. In this unit we have been learning about diversity, gender roles, and studied the banning of books. For our action project we had to create a research paper that outlined why the books where banned, who banned it, and then we had to take a stance on the book and discuss whether we thought the book should or  should not be banned. Slowly Sloth

Hello! For the first STEAM class of the year, Population, we learned about taxonomy, set theory, quadrilaterals, and biology. To prepare for this class over the summer we read In the Shadow of Man by Jane Goodall.  We also went on our first FE to the Lincoln Park Zoo where we chose the animal we would study for our AP. We then continued to study our animal by visiting the  Field Museum to observe the taxidermy animal we had chosen. For our AP we had to create a project explaining the taxonomy of the animal of choice. I chose Hoffman's two-toed sloth because I think sloths are really interesting. In the project, you will read about Hoffman's two-toed sloth, its habitat, taxonomic categories, and the morphological traits that show the taxonomic categories. You will also learn about set theory and how my animal compares to other animals my classmates have chosen. I hope you enjoy it! CH.
