My Dreams

In my Humanities class, Rhetoric, we recently finished our third and final unit called Unity. In this unit, we furthered our knowledge of rhetoric and the impact it can have. We studied different situations where rhetoric has been used to inspire, unite, and bring change. We then focused on rhetorical devices. We studied different passages so that we could understand how these devices get used. For example, Common Sense by Thomas Paine was a pamphlet that continuously used rhetoric to persuade independence from Great Britain to people in the Thirteen Colonies. For this AP, we had to create a piece of artwork that expresses an issue and brings together unity.

I am 17 years old and as a teenager, I can tell you that life is a mess right now. With all of life's ups and downs, it can often seem as if we are just moving through life with no real purpose or goal. In order to portray how I feel, I choose to create a collage. The words and pictures I used were taken out of an issue of Teen Vogue. The collage includes words and phrases that I relate to. The pictures help to add some depth and dimension to the words that fill the page. I relate to these words and phrases as a teenager and a girl growing up currently in today's society. The words I used were extremely purposeful. I am specifically touching on the struggles that girls go through in order to accept themself. This is due to outside pressures from friends, family, and school. These are the pressure that is put on girls to conform to societal, cultural, and gender norms. This includes the backlash and victim-blaming that so many women and girls face when they speak out about sexual harassment. According to RAINN, 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempt or completed rape. Due to the retaliation that many women get and the fear that no one will believe them just because of their gender, race, or sexuality, about 3 out of every 4 sexual assaults go unreported. This collage helps to send a message that even though life is tough, we are stronger. That we can get through this as long as we focus on our dreams and our goals ahead in life. I believe that I would want my collage to be uploaded online on Instagram. I believe that by using Instagram, a lot of people would be able to view it from all over the world.

Hello! For the first STEAM class of the year, Population, we learned about taxonomy, set theory, quadrilaterals, and biology. To prepare for this class over the summer we read In the Shadow of Man by Jane Goodall.  We also went on our first FE to the Lincoln Park Zoo where we chose the animal we would study for our AP. We then continued to study our animal by visiting the  Field Museum to observe the taxidermy animal we had chosen. For our AP we had to create a project explaining the taxonomy of the animal of choice. I chose Hoffman's two-toed sloth because I think sloths are really interesting. In the project, you will read about Hoffman's two-toed sloth, its habitat, taxonomic categories, and the morphological traits that show the taxonomic categories. Space Debris Science Conference

Welcome to the third action project for my STEAM class, Frontiers. This class is about exploration. This project connects directly to my second action project, Space Junk . For this action project, I had to create a poster based on a research paper I created this term. I choose my most recent paper on space exploration. In this paper, I choose to focus on space debris and how this affects space exploration. This poster summarizes my research paper.  CH."Space Debris Poster." Google Slides, 2022. I enjoyed completing this poster. I have a great interest in space, so putting together this poster was fun for me. I believed I have managed my time well with this project as I did include the feedback given to me by my teacher.

Coraline's Closet: The How-To Guide

Welcome to my last AP for Endurance. During this class, we learned about different individuals who physically and mentally endured challenges in order to survive or reach a goal. For our AP, we had to create a survival guide or how-to manual on something we see ourselves taking on and challenging ourselves with in the future. I choose to write my how-to guide about starting a clothing brand. I choose this as my topic because it is something I am really passionate about and could possibly see myself doing in the near future. I feel that I would have a lot of challenges if I were to take on this mission. After creating this guide, I can see that with the proper training and support I will excel. I am happy with how this project turned out. I hope that whoever reads this manual can learn something new. This is also my last AP for GCE.
